Tier choice is a question about waste. Too small and time goes into rationing addresses; too large and the invoice covers capacity that never gets touched. Three hundred is where those two costs cross for most small operations.
The Sizing Calculation
- Concurrent live profiles, times three, plus a margin for verification runs.
- Compare that figure against the tier boundaries before choosing.
- Review idle count after the first month and adjust at renewal.
Reading The Tiers Against Each Other
The cheapest packs are priced as demonstrations and behave like it. The largest tiers assume a team and a pipeline. Between them, per-address cost falls steadily while utilisation falls faster, so the efficient point is the smallest tier that still leaves a reserve after every live profile has what it needs. Anything beyond that is buying insurance at retail.
Calculating Your Number
Take concurrent live profiles, multiply by three to allow for retries and regional variants, and add a fixed margin of twenty or so for verification work. Most small operations land between two and four hundred, which is why this tier exists. If the calculation comes out well below, the smaller pack is genuinely the right answer for now.
Watching Utilisation
After a month, look at how many addresses were never used. Consistently high idle counts mean the next renewal should go down a tier, not up. Rising retry rates against a full pack mean the opposite. Both are cheaper signals to act on than a guess made at purchase time.
Comparing Against Metered Plans
The two products are priced on different axes, which makes direct comparison misleading. A per-address pack costs the same whether an address moves a megabyte or a gigabyte, so it is efficient for heavy use of a few identities and wasteful for light use of many. Metered traffic inverts that. The practical test is whether your work is defined by how many identities you hold or by how many pages you fetch; the answer points at one product and rules out the other.
Priced Per Address
Cost tracks the identities you run rather than the traffic they generate.
Capacity Carries Over
Unused addresses stay available; a slow month is not a write-off.
Step Up On Evidence
Larger tiers exist when utilisation says so, not before.
